Saddlebag Pattern....GIVEAWAY

Samantha of "At Home with Mrs. H" designed another easy pattern.
This one a beginner can make...it really is easy!
The bag is a good size ...14" W X 8.5"H x 7"D ( 35.5 x 22 x 18 cm)
It has a contrasting strap for the closure....and a long crossbody strap....
The back has a big pocket with a magnetic snap
The inside has a zipper pocket & a slip pocket if you like ( which I left out)

I used decorator fabric on the outside ....the flap & pocket were a remnant piece I got from the "free" bin at the fabric shop... the burnt orange was a rest piece from shortening the curtains in our bedroom ...for the inside I actually used normal cotton. Batting is Thermolan ( Bodenvliese)..next time I'd use headliner for more form.
If you would like to make you own bag...your going to like the next part...

...the Giveaway....
If you'd like to win this Pattern( pdf)
......just leave a comment...do you also recycle fabrics or use only new ??
The raffle thingie will pick a winner on ....Friday 20th of March, 2015

Happy Sewing !
P.S.. in case your wondering why my bag looks a bit smaller then the pattern, its because I printed the pattern at 90% so my flap fabric would fit ...basically I cheated !

  5. The answer to both questions is yes! :) I buy new fabrics, and I also recycle. I would like to get better at finding and reclaiming things to use in sewing, because there's a lot of good fabric out there.

The saddlebag pattern is really cute. I would love to win it, too! Thanks for the opportunity!

  9. Me me me pick me to win!
I often use recycled fabric in my projects, my favourite was when I made baby pants out of an old skirt for a wedding :) but most recently I used the fabric that the Christmas ham was wrapped up in as the lining on a bag!

  10. Great bag! And my thought is that I'll use any fabric that I like, regardless of where it came from. Thanks for the giveaway!

  11. As a newbie to bag making, this pattern would be perfect for me! Whenever I need some fabric to practice with, I head straight to the op shops (thrift stores) for extra large shirts, coats, pants, anything. Fabric is so expensive over here in Australia, that upcycling is the best and cheapest way to go.

  18. I will recycle, or use new. I like using recycled stuff when I have some that will work. It is often better quality than much of the new.

  30. I use a combination of new &old fabrics. I usually utilize thrifted bags for the hardware and handles. I'm not a huge fan of fabric handles - they look more homemade. Manuf. have better access to materials than we do.
    Thanks for the giveaway.

  31. I have a few old fabrics in my stash but until now I did not come to actually sew with those. But my sister gave me some very colourful bedsheets that I am about to turn into pyjama trousers, so I only need to find the slot to do it! Tschakka!
Great pattern for a giveaway, thank you! And loveyly version that you made :)

  32. I do recycle fabrics for linings - I have a few scrub tops that are cute prints but no longer fit - so these are the linings of the zipper bags I make. And I don't give jeans to Goodwill anymore - I save them for projects. Thanks for the chance to win this pattern - it's a nice big bag! jacklynnsteven at netzero dot com

  44. I mostly use new fabric in my bags (well, because I've been accumulating a lot of fabric lately). But I've made 2 bags that I can think of using old jeans (I have a ton of those, too). I guess I'm becoming a hoarder. Thank you, peterstankovich@comcast.net
